Meet the Zagars: A Love Story, Two Golden Retrievers, and One Big Dream

Some love stories begin with candlelight, dramatic music, or a perfectly timed movie moment.

Travis and Cassie Zagar’s story began on a bus in Europe.

Ten years ago, while traveling abroad, the two met somewhere between destinations. That chance encounter turned into a lasting adventure, and today they have been married for six years.

Travis grew up in Aurora, Colorado, and works as a Resident Engineer in aviation construction. Cassie is from Basehor, Kansas, and serves others as a registered nurse specializing in oncology.

Together, they have built a life full of love, purpose, and plenty of golden retriever energy.

A New Road Toward Family

For years, Travis and Cassie dreamed of growing their family. They pursued that dream through several rounds of IVF, but each attempt ended without the outcome they had hoped for.

Eventually, they reached a difficult fork in the road.

Would they continue fertility treatments, or would they begin exploring adoption?

One thing was certain: they were not ready to give up on becoming parents.

With hopeful hearts, Travis and Cassie chose the path of domestic adoption.

Taking the Next Steps

In December, the Zagars began working with Adoption & Beyond. Since then, they have completed their home study, prepared their family profile, and taken all the necessary steps to become an active waiting family.

Their profile officially went live in April.

Now comes one of the hardest parts of the adoption process: waiting for a match.

It is a season filled with anticipation, patience, nerves, and hope. Somewhere out there, a connection may be forming that will forever change their family.

A Home Ready for More Love

Travis and Cassie are ready to welcome a child into a home already overflowing with love.

Their two golden retrievers are also standing by, presumably prepared to offer plenty of tail wags, cuddles, and unsolicited supervision.

The Zagars have opened their hearts to adoption, and we are honored to welcome them into the Six Picks Forever Family Program.
